Don Besco

Donald is a Toronto born painter raised in Cabbagetown. Donald attended Central Technical School where he studied under Doris McCarthy and Charles Goldhammer. After graduating in 1958 he began a successful career as an illustrator and designer in Toronto, retiring in 1989 to paint.

Donald works predominantly in oils, occasionally sketching in watercolours and pastels. Possessed of strong hand and a remarkable colour sense Donald's en plain air sketches capture the immediacy of the moment stripped down to the essence of colour and light while his studio work brings these essentials forth across an intense richness of surface.

His work over these last four decades is held in private collections throughout North America, Europe, Japan and China as he continues to capture the essence of these vanishing views.
